Tom sent me a really weird link tonight. You thought installing RedHat Linux was easy? Try Installing Linux on a Dead Badger
(note: no badgers were harmed in the making of this blog entry)

Books, books and more books
We visited Leicester the other week on the way back from a daytrip to London and found a bookshop called Borders had sprung up in one of the out-of-town shopping centres.

SETI update
Well, I’m now up into the top 1% of users in terms of work units for SETI@home – rank is 46,744 out of 4.8 million users.
Why do I do it? I don’t really know – I used to run the distributed.net RC5 client but once the contest was over, figured I might as well use those spare CPU cycles to do something more interesting. If there is intelligent life out there, maybe they’ll have the answers to some of the more difficult problems we face or maybe they’ll just wipe us all out so we don’t have to worry about the problems of exhausting natural resources, polluting the environment and so on.
I’m a Switcher
Ok, I’ve finally switched. Now I’ve had the chance to use MacOSX I’m quite enjoying it. There’s all the power of unix but also the pretty GUI stuff that I’ve grown used to using Windows as a desktop.
So much for snow
Well, despite my blog entry at the end of December, the snow didn’t really settle. It was quite disappointing. One of my New Years resolutions is to blog more often.. given the months between entries last year, that shouldn’t be too hard.
It’s snowing!
Finally, after days of waiting, it’s decided to snow. Unfortunately although the flakes are big ones it’s not settling on the ground because it was raining this morning too. It’s still snowing though so there’s hope yet!
It’s rather hot…
…in the server case. Seems the fan has decided to pack in so it’s rather warm and has already caused 2 crashes in 2 weeks in a machine that’s not needed a reboot in months.
When is a router not a router?
Found this url on a mailing list and figured it was just too funny not to share.

What’s worse than…
…monsters under the bed? Lots of little insects in the flour.
